Jelly Bean Math

This math lesson involves using jelly beans for data collection.

Virginia Standard of Learning 1.18: The student will investigate, identify, and describe various forms of data collection in his/her world (e.g., recording daily temperature, lunch count, attendance, and favorite ice cream).

Materials: jelly beans, jelly bean sorting sheet, jelly bean graph sheet, pencils, crayons

Activity: Give students a small container of jelly beans. Students sort and count jelly beans by color. Students make a bar graph of their jelly beans. Students compare their bar graph with 2 other students and discuss the differences of each graph. Students eat jelly beans.
